‘Why Waste Time Scrolling?’ Infosys Employee Takes Up Bike Taxi Gig On Weekends
A woman in Bengaluru shared an unexpected encounter with a bike taxi rider, who turned out to be an Infosys employee.

In today’s world, where inflation is soaring and daily expenses continue to rise, making ends meet has become increasingly difficult. To combat the growing cost of living, stagnant wages, and the pursuit of financial stability, many individuals are turning to multiple jobs and side gigs for extra income. In a recent incident, a woman in Bengaluru shared an unexpected encounter with a bike taxi rider — who turned out to be an Infosys employee working in the contract management team.
In a LinkedIn post, Chaarmika Nagalla shared how she was greeted with “Am I audible?" on a call with a bike taxi rider, a phrase typically used in virtual meetings. As they spoke, she discovered that the rider was an Infosys employee from the contract management team. The engineer shared that he spends his weekends working as a bike taxi rider to earn extra income and stay productive — rather than wasting time scrolling through social media.

“It turns out he works for Infosys on their contract management team??!! But instead of doom-scrolling through reels on weekends or early in the morning, he figured, ‘Why not earn some extra money and be productive?’ And this was not a one-off," she added.
Well, this was not just one case the woman faced in the tech capital of India where engineers are opting for side gigs to make some extra money. Sharing another incident, she continued, “Just recently, my Uber trip home turned out to be a premium bike, packed with high-end gear and a dressed-up rider."
After having a conversation with him, the woman discovered that the guy works at a B2B event management company and works as a bike taxi rider to have a company. “ Why drive alone from work to home? Might as well complete a ride and have some company," the driver told her.
She further emphasised how loneliness is slowly becoming the new epidemic and how we are covering deeper issues by hustling. “Honestly, Bangalore never fails to amaze me. While it’s good to see more people taking on gig employment, I can’t help but wonder if loneliness is becoming an epidemic. Not long ago, we saw a Microsoft employee moonlighting as an auto driver on weekends to battle loneliness. And this makes me wonder: Are we hiding deeper difficulties by ‘hustling’?" she wrote.
The post instantly grabbed the attention of the viewers, prompting several reactions. A user commented, “I’m not sure if we should label loneliness as ‘hustling,’ though. The shift towards this is genuinely frightening."
One of them wrote, “What an interesting perspective! It’s great to see individuals making the most of their time, yet your remark about loneliness is thought-provoking."
Another one shared, “What do u think? Why do Employees become Uber or Ola or Rapido drivers on the weekends? Mostly due to financial constraints!!! If no financial issues, then instead of becoming a contract driver, he should then look out for massive passive income options OR networking events OR working as a part-time emp with any entrepreneur to learn business skills OR to join any course of skill development."
Many users resonated with the story, sharing similar encounters of professionals taking on side gigs. Have you ever met someone balancing a full-time job while hustling on the side?
